Fairbanks 9 Day Adventure
Day 1: Arrive in Fairbanks. You will have private transportation from the airport to your luxurious downtown hotel in Anchorage. After settling into your hotel your guide will take you on a walking tour of downtown, and then take you to a local restaurant for some local cuisine and some cultural nightlife.
Day 2: In the early morning you will depart by either AAW shuttle, or by Alaska bush plane North to spend a few hours above the Arctic Circle. This imaginary line is where the sun never sets on the Summer Solstice and is located in the desolate Northern corridor. Return to Fairbanks in the afternoon.
Day 3: After breakfast at the hotel you will join your guide and begin your scenic drive to Denali National Park through the mountains and across the Alaskan tundra. In Denali you will board a small bush plane and enjoy a flight on the shoulder of Denali (Mt. McKinley) where you will have a birds eye view of the highest point in North America. Your plane will land in the small town of Kantishna in the center of the park. You will stay the night in the park where you can enjoy the scenery, wildlife, or take a short hike onto one of the local ridgelines for a better view of this breathtaking area.
Day 4: A relaxed morning will allow more time for hiking and exploring and then you will board a park shuttle and take the scenic drive to the park entrance near Healy. Your drive will take you through wildlife country where you may see Grizzly Bears, Wolves, Dall Sheep, Moose and Caribou. After arrival at the Park boundary we will drive to your deluxe lodging to settle in for the afternoon. You will be able to explore the surrounding area, drive on Stampede Road (featured in the movie “Into the Wild”), or just relax. In the evening we will attend an old-fashioned dinner show with fresh Salmon on the menu.
Day 5: In the morning you will have more time to relax at your lodge and then we will take an exciting rafting trip down the Nenana River. You have the choice of paddling your raft down the river or letting your guide earn his wage as you just hold on and enjoy the big waves of the canyon. After lunch we will visit Jeff King’s Dog Kennels where you will be able to meet and see the famous Iditarod Sled dog race winners and possibly even Jeff King himself. After the tour we will continue our drive on down to Talkeetna to settle into our spectacular mountain-view lodge. Dinner will be in the small town of Talkeetna.
Day 6: After a relaxing morning you will join a fly fishing guide that will take us to a local stream to try our hand at catching some monster Salmon as they fight up the river to spawn. In the afternoon we will drive through Anchorage to Seward. Settle into your hotel and your guide will take you on a walking tour of the town before dinner.
Day 7: After breakfast at the hotel we join a deep sea fishing tour leaving from Seward. This tour will give you the chance to catch yourself a record setting Halibut or Salmon to send home before you board your cruise ship. After you return to Seward you will have the option to join your guide on a scenic hike up to the Exit Glacier located just outside the city of Seward.
Day 8: Breakfast will be at the hotel and then we will take the 6-hour Kenai Fjords tour. This tour will take you out of the bay and up to the edge of calving glaciers. Return to your hotel in the afternoon and relax for the evening.
Day 9: One more relaxing day in Seward and then you will board your cruise ship in either Seward or Whittier.
