Bhutan, the Thunder Dragon Kingdom, is cradled in the folds of the Himalayas, bordered on the north and east by Tibet and on the south, west and east by India. This trip was desiged for a couple that wanted to experience all the culture and majesty of Bhutan with 4 and 5 star accommodations at the end of each day. The trek included in the itinerary allows for a true experience in the mountains without a commitment to one of the longer trails available in Bhutan. The major sights of Bhutan are included in this itinerary as well as world class guides.
9 Day Itinerary with 3 Day Trek Included:
Day 1: Arrive in Paro and drive to Thimphu. Explore Ugyen Pelri Palace, Chorten Temple and then arrive in Thimphu. In Thimphu visit the incense manufacturing unit, drive to Takin Zoo and drive to BBS tower for a sunset view of Thimphu.
Day 2: Drive from Thimphu to Punakha. Morning tours around Thimphu and drive through Dochu La with a stunning view of the Himalayan Ranges. Short hike to Chimi Lhakhang then the Punakha Dzong and then another short hike or drive to Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chhorten, a temple built by the Queen of Bhutan for world peace and Stability.
Day 3: Drive from Puhakha to Bumthang. Scenic tours to Trongsa via Pele La Pass the a visit to Trongsa Dzong (the most impressive Dzong in Bhutan). Finish the drive into the scenic Bumthang valley, the heart of Buddhism in Bhutan.
Day 4: Drive from Bumthang to Gangtey. En route visit the Wangdichholing Palace consisting of 3 temples surrounded by 108 Chhortens. Arrive in Gangtey, home to the endangered Black-necked Cranes that migrate during this time of the year to the valley.
Day 5: Trek from Gangtey to Gogona. Follow a moderate trail over Tselela Pass in this ancient part of Bhutan through rhododendrons, bamboo, juniper and magnolias.
Day 6: Trek from Gogona to Khotokha. A gentle climb leads to Shobjula pass and then descends into a wide valley.
Day 7: Trek from Khotokha to Wangdue. A short ascent to Tashila pass and then a walk through ever-changing vegetation into the Dang Chu watershed. After finishing the trek you will be transported to Phunakha by private transportation.
Day 8: Drive from Punakha to Paro. Scenic drive through the countryside around Paro. Hike to the famous Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). Taktsang is one of the holiest sites in the country and one of the venerated Buddhist monuments in the Himalayas.
Day 9: Leisurely morning in Paro. Your guide will transport you to the airport for your flight in the afternoon.
