Your adventure is tailored to those who like avoiding the crowds and want to get to know the culture, as well as the natural beauty, of this country.  In between spotting wildlife in Manuel Antonio National Park, flying through the jungle on zip-lines, rafting down the spectacular Pacuare River, and surfing the Caribbean coast, you will lounge on pristine white and black sand beaches and enjoy all the “Pura Vida” (pure life) that Costa Rica has to offer.

Day By Day Details

Day 1: San Jose to Manueal Antonio - Welcome to Costa Rica!
Upon your arrival in San Jose, you will pick-up your 4x4 SUV rental vehicle and drive to Manuel Antonio.  After settling into your accommodations, you will have the evening free to explore the towns of Manuel Antonio and Quepos. Composed of spectacular white-grey sand beaches, the bright blue waters of the ocean, and entirely fringed by thickly forested green hills, Manuel Antonio provides one of the most stunning, picture-postcard backdrops in the country. (No meals)

Days 2-3: Manuel Antonio - Explore Beautiful Manuel Antonio
Relax and enjoy two full days in Manuel Antonio. Your hotel will be just minutes away from the idyllic white sand beaches, as well as restaurants, shopping, and nightlife. You will be able to walk from beach to beach via trails that meander through the rainforest, which is filled with monkeys, sloths, and hundreds of species of exotic birds. You will be able to explore its lush beauty first on foot on a guided park tour, then in the sky on a thrilling zip-line canopy tour. Other optional activities include whitewater rafting, ocean cruising, horseback riding, fishing, and sea kayaking, just to name a few! (B)

Day 4: Manuel Antonio to Turrialba - Afternoon Drive to Turrialba
You will have the morning free in Manuel Antonio to relax on the beach or participate in one of the many exciting optional activities, before driving through San Jose to Turrialba (4 hours). After your late afternoon arrival, you will check into your hotel and explore Turrialba, which is a charming town surrounded by majestic mountains (including the Turrialba Volcano) and scenic rivers.  (B)

Day 5: Pacuare River - Pacuare River Rafting Adventure

After a hearty breakfast at your hotel, you will begin your two-day adventure on the Pacuare River, which was named by National Geographic as one of the top five most beautiful rivers to raft on in the world. Along your journey, you will see lush vegetation, waterfalls, pools, and a pristine rainforest filled with wildlife such as jaguars and monkeys. You will be rafting along exhilarating class III-IV rapids for two to three hours, with the opportunity to stop and explore the nearby canyons and wilderness. Once you get off the river, you will spend the night at a private jungle camp. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Pacuare River - Pacuare River Rafting Adventure
Enjoy a leisurely morning breakfast at your campsite before continuing your rafting adventure. You will be rafting on thrilling class III-IV rapids for two to three hours until arriving in Siquirres in the late afternoon. You will then continue the drive to the Caribbean Coast (2 hours), where you will settle into your hotel in Puerto Viejo. (B, L)

Days 7-8: Pacuare River to Puerto Viejo - Enjoy Puerto Viejo
Relax and enjoy two full days at your luxurious accommodations in Puerto Viejo. Located in Limon province on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a beach lover’s paradise. Here amidst the exotic flora and fauna lies a lively seaside town with gorgeous beaches, turquoise blue waters, and some of the most amazing surfing opportunities in the country. Not only is this beach oasis incredibly beautiful, but it also has a vibrant Rastafarian and Caribbean culture. One day, you can even try your hand at surfing with a private lesson! You can spend the rest of your days relaxing, bike cruising, taking rainforest hikes, or enjoying one of the many other optional activities in the area. (B)

Day 9: Puerto Viejo to San Jose - Afternoon Drive to San Jose You will have your morning free in Puerto Viejo before driving to San Jose, where you can spend the evening relaxing or accomplishing any last minute shopping. The night will be spent in San Jose. (B)

Day 10: Return Flight Home Depending on your flight time, you will return your car rental and be dropped off at the San Jose Airport for your return flight home.

Unique Accommodations: Luxurious hotels for 3 nights in Manuel Antonio, 1 night in Turrialba, 1 night on Pacuare River, 3 nights in Puerto Viejo, and 1 night in San Jose

Making A Reservation

If this sounds like the perfect adventure vacation for you, just contact your travel agent or Adventures Around the World directly to make a reservation.  A 25% deposit is due immediately, with the balance due 60 days before departing on your adventure.  We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover, as well as checks payable to Adventures Around the World. Please review the AAW Terms and Conditions before payment, as you are bound by our Terms, Conditions, Payment and Cancellation policies once we receive your deposit.

What’s Next?
Once we have received your trip deposit, one of our adventure travel professionals will provide you with pre-departure trip information and packing lists, as well as a guest information questionnaire and liability release form to be returned within 10 days. After that, we will handle all of the details as you relax and get ready for the adventure of a lifetime!


Important Policies

  • Your deposit of 25% of the total cost of your vacation is due immedetely upon booking. The balance is due 60 days prior to departure.
  • The price shown is per person NET, and does not include international air fare to/from the trip start point.
  • Prices are based on current rates of exchange, government fees, tarrifs and taxes. Any increases between quote date and start date are payable by the client.
  • We will exercise best efforts to book hotels per the itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of tour date we may be forced to offer substitutes. We will endeavour to confirm final hotel bookings as soon as possible.
  • Cancellation - Cancellations 60 days or more prior to departure will be subject to a 5% cancellation fee. 60-30 days will be subject to loss of 50% of trip cost. 30-15 days will be subject to loss of 75% of trip cost. 15 days or less will be subject to 100% of program price.
  • Payment of the program price constitutes your acceptance of the Terms and Conditions set out by Adventures Around the World.
