CULTURAL SIGHTS AND SOUNDS

The United States has many cultural opportunities throughout the country. With so much emphasis on overseas travel, it is easy to forget that the United States has incredible sights and sounds for the adventure traveler.

WHITEWATER RAFTING/KAYAKING

There are endless opportunities to raft and kayak in the United States. In general, the best regions are near the mountains in the East and the West. Our favorites include the Snake and Rogue Rivers in the Northwest, the Colorado, Arkansas, and Salmon Rivers in the Rockies, and the American and Tuolumne Rivers in the West. On the East Coast, the New and Gauley Rivers are excellent, and in the Northeast we recommend the Kenebec River in Maine. No matter where you are or what your level, Adventures Around the World can arrange the right river for you.

PADDLING AND SEA KAYAKING

Many coastal regions are best explored by canoe or kayak. The California, Oregon and Washington coast can be visited on day or multi-day trips to remote coves and impressive cliff-lined walls. In the Northeast, the islands and coves of coastal Maine can be explored by sea kayak. The Midwest has many remote river and lake trips that take you miles into the wilderness.

FISHING

There are many excellent options for fishing in the United States. Each region offers different options from open-water ocean fishing to fly-fishing on remote creeks and streams. We like to combine rafting with many of our fishing trips. Some of our best fishing adventures are on the Rogue River in Oregon and the Salmon River in Idaho.

BIRD AND WILDLIFE WATCHING

The diverse landscape of the United States allows for incredible scenic wildlife tours off both the East and West Coasts. Thanks to the National Parks system, a traveler can visit Glacier National Park in Montana for bear viewing or Yellowstone to see moose. Depending on your interest and desires, we customize your trip for incredible wildlife viewing.

DIVING AND SNORKELING

The West Coast is the best place for diving in the United States. While the water is cold, the clearness makes spectacular kelp forests and pristine reefs great for diving. Both day trips and multi-day certification classes can be arranged.

ROCK CLIMBING

World-class cliffs and technical mountains exist throughout the United States. Short day excursions can help those new to the sport gain the skills necessary to have fun and to stay safe. There are also areas that can be visited over multi-day trips. Our climbing adventure locations in the United States include Smith Rocks in Oregon, Red Rocks outside of Las Vegas, the Yosemite Valley in California, the New River Gorge in West Virginia and the White Mountains in New Hampshire. There are endless climbing possibilities in the United States, and we can customize the perfect itinerary for you.

SURFING

The entire West Coast of the United States has some of the best surfing spots in the world. California has many great opportunities to get out and experience the joys of surfing. While the water is cold, the breaks are regular and can match any level of experience. Excellent surf spots can be found along the long stretches of the California coast. Oregon and Washington also have great surf breaks too.

MOUNTAINEERING

The United States is an incredible place for high-mountain ambitions. The East Coast offers many high and remote mountains that take multiple days to approach and scale. In the West are some of the highest peaks in the lower 48 states. The highest peak in the continental united states is Mt. Whitney in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. North of California are the volcanic mountains of the Cascade Mountains. Adventurers can experience glacier travel and great technical climbing opportunities. The Rockies also offer many excellent climbs, including the many 14,000 ft. peaks in Colorado, the majestic Grand Teton in Wyoming or Granite Peak in Montana. Both day trips and multi-day trips can be arranged.

HIKING AND CAMPING

Over 16 percent of the United States is protected land, and the some of the most beautiful areas can only be explored by hiking and multi-day backpacking trips. We arrange many different day and overnight trips to amazing protected and remote land throughout the United States.

BIKING

The United States has excellent short and long bike tours available in many different regions. Whether you are a mountain biker or a road biker, relatively new to the sport or an experienced biker, we arrange trips with the right distance and difficulty for you.

HORSEBACK RIDING

Ranch tours and pack trips are becoming more popular each year with our travelers. Everything from hour- long riding adventures to multi-day overnight trips are available. The history of the Wild West can be explored, and there are opportunities to live on a working ranch as you learn to rope cattle and ride horses in the scenic plains of the West. We set up adventures in many locations throughout the United States.

SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING

Nearly all of the mountainous regions in the United States offer ski resorts and backcountry options for winter travelers. All of these areas cater to both beginners and experts. There are some incredible ski resorts and terrain in the United States. There are endless opportunities for backcountry adventures, which require a need for avalanche awareness and skiing/snowboarding skills. The benefit is a pure outdoor experience and first tracks through untouched snow. Another option for a premium ski/snowboard adventure is heli-skiing.  Instead of lifts, helicopters take skiers and snowboarders to the tops of remote mountain peaks to ski lines as steep as you can handle. We help you choose the right adventure for you.

OTHER EXCITING ACTIVITIES

Different regions of the United States offer exciting opportunities for the adventure traveler. Activities such as kite boarding and windsurfing, ATV excursions, golfing and many more can be arranged with Adventures Around the World.
